Vietnam has a restricted number of countries that it offers visa exemptions to. Please check the list of those countries and types of exemptions.

For the most part, all travellers to Vietnam need a visa. You should contact your travel agent about this, or go directly to the Vietnamese embassy or consulate in your country. Embassies/consulates will need time to process requests. When you receive your visa, check the entry and exit dates carefully. Mistakes need to be corrected before arrival in Vietnam; otherwise you may not be allowed to enter the country.

Vietnam visas can also be arranged for collection on arrival – but this process must be started before arrival to Vietnam. A traveller will not be able to board the aircraft, if they do not have the correct letter of authorization to get a visa on arrival. To get a visa for Vietnam on arrival, an authorisation letter must be obtained first. This can be organised through on line agencies (www.myvietnamvisa.com or www.vietnam-visa.com) and must be carried with the passport at time of check-in.

These companies will accept travel details and payment online with a general processing time of around 2-3 business days. It is suggested that you obtain a 1 month single entry visa for your Contiki Asia tour.

Critical to the visa process is ensuring that the details are correct – specifically the date of arrival and date of exit. There is no problem if the date is several days before the intended arrival, or several days after the intended date of departure. Your passport must have at least 6 months validity on it.

  1. The best way to get a Vietnam Visa?

Many have asked us that what the best way to get Vietnam visa is. The fastest and easiest way to get a visa to Vietnam is applying online for a Visa on Arrival through a travel agent. You will get your Visa Approval Letter (or Visa Pre-approved Letter) after 2-3 working days (normal) or 1 working day (urgent). All you have to do is only to fill in this secure online form at Vietnam Visa, pay the fee, and get your approval letter after 2-3 days. Remember to check you email after that as you will also receive 1 or two mails that instructs you how to use the approval letter later on.

The other way is to get normal Vietnam entry visa (to be received before traveling) directly at Vietnam Embassy in your country. This takes time (around 4-10 days) and requires many procedures. So the former is better!

  2. Thanks to the open travel policy of Vietnam, visitors now can apply for a so-called visa on arrival (VOA). Travellers can apply for their entry visa online and pick up their visas at Vietnam international airports. After checking through travel forums to find out a good service provider for this type of visa, we found http://www.vietnamvisa-online.com – a reliable agent to start with.
It is being recommended by forumers at Tripadvisor, GapAdventures, LonelyPlanet, Flyertalk, Travelfish and also recommended by Lonely Planet veteran author Robert Reid.
Their price is posted clearly on website, and we found it reasonable among others. One of our editors emailed them, and we almost received an immediate response. one positive thing is that they also offer online secure payment through credit/debit cards.
